Activities
The network's activities program is based on a desire to work together to develop successful social policies regarding homeless people who take shelter in stations. Specifically, the railroad companies have committed to do the following:
* plan social interventions in urban and railroad areas, involving government agencies, nonprofits, volunteers, the general public and law enforcement;
* study and monitor developments in the area of behavioral problems, sharing the results with other networks involved in this project; as well as increase awareness and plan training courses for railroad personnel, particularly those working in the stations, in order to manage behavioral problems, developing tools to address and manage these problems in the stations and meeting periodically to share best practices;
* broaden network participation to include other European railway companies and facilitate their integration [into the network].
The network is organized under two copresidents employed by two different companies in the transportation services sector. The post of president is occupied in turn, and renewed every two years.
The copresidents work with a management committee made up of a representative from each participating company.
The committee determines the general direction and approves the annual action plan. Once a year a European conference is held to exchange information on the social initiatives that have been undertaken. In 2009, the network launched its Web site and began to research social policies in train stations, in order to assess existing conditions and develop common strategies.
