Network Presentation
In October 2008 French, Italian, Belgian and Luxembourgian railroad companies signed a European Charter to develop social programs in railroad stations. This initiative, which is open to all European countries wishing to participate, is based on a number of European Community assessments.
Participating networks began with the observation that the problems of social exclusion in a global economy cannot be solved within the narrow confines of individual nations. For this reason they are encouraging feedback in analyzing the nature and methods of this project.
It should be noted that, while there are differences, a common thread unites the policies of the individual countries' railroad companies: the need to incorporate safety and solidarity; that is, to guarantee travelers efficient service and clean, welcoming stations, but also to try to help anyone who takes shelter in a station out of dire need. These activities must be carried out in collaboration with government agencies and volunteer organizations.
We wish to take this opportunity to give European citizens an overview of the project and provide information about our initiatives in hopes of opening up avenues for dialogue.
