SNCF
A passenger and freight transport company of national and European relevance, SNCF is a major player in the French economy and in the everyday lives of its people.
Employing more than 160,000 workers, SNCF is responsible for the running of 15,000 trains every day, 4,000 stations and a rail network in excess of 32,000 km (run on behalf of Reseau Ferre de France). Its main-line, inter-regional, regional and Ile de France trains transport almost 1 billion passengers a year, while Freight trains transport 100 million tons of goods.
Through its four business units, Proximites, Voyageurs France Europe, Transports et logistique and Infrastructure, SNCF seeks to face up to and win the challenge of conquering new markets.
SNCF serves the whole national territory; its trains and stations are meeting points for the whole population, where people of all ages and all ranks come together.
Working in the midst of radical changes going on in society, its business activities and public service goals very much depend on the state of the community, but they can also help to shape it.
